Laurel Psychological Services
Welcome!
I'm Courtney Cook, and I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Tennessee. I provide care in Tennessee and to all PsyPact states. I earned my PhD from East Tennessee State University in 2017 followed by 8 years with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
I have extensive experience working with a variety of presenting issues including depression, anxiety, and trauma. (Please see below for more about how I approach therapy!) We may work particularly well together if you are experiencing:
relationship issues
parenting challenges (be it managing your emotions or your kiddo's!)
difficulties with perfectionism or not speaking up
or irritability/anger
I also specialize in working with law enforcement and military professionals and trans/GNC populations and hold certifications in Interpersonal Therapy for Depression, CBT-Insomnia, Reproductive Mental Health (VHA), and Transgender Health (VHA Scan-Echo).
I am currently providing virtual sessions only, but will offer in-person sessions in Elizabethton, TN, in summer 2025.

My Approach to Therapy
Human struggle is a shared experience, thus being "human first" and authentic is important to me in my clinical work. This often means sharing a laugh, acknowledging imperfections, or chatting about the latest TV shows.
I believe therapy should not be "one size fits all" but adapted to meet the needs of the individual client. To do this, I integrate evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy to best meet my clients' needs.
I believe active engagement, goal-setting, and behavioral change are critical components to effective therapy. I often compare psychotherapy to a football huddle--we put our heads together and strategize how to make effective change, but you the client run the play! I want clients to leave sessions with something that empowers them in even the most challenging of circumstances, whether that is a tool to practice, a new approach to communicating a difficult discussion, or making time for themselves.
Frequently Asked Questions
What services do you provide?
I offer individual and couples therapy as well as gender-affirming support (including WPATH letters).
Where do you provide services?
I am currently providing virtual sessions only, but will offer in-person sessions in Elizabethton, TN, beginning summer 2025.
What are your fees? Do you take insurance?
I am in-network with Aetna in Tennessee and am in-process of paneling with United Healthcare and Lyra EAP in Tennessee.
I also see clients out-of-network. My rates are $150 per session for individual therapy and $200 per session for couples therapy.
Even if I do not accept your insurance, your plan may have out-of-network benefits, which means that they will reimburse you for portion of our session cost. I am happy to provide you with a superbill for this purpose. I also work with Thrizer, a service that assists with navigating out-of-network benefits. They will manage the reimbursement process for you to save you the insurance headache. Together we can look at Thrizer to see if you are eligible for these benefits.
I also offer limited "pay what you can" spots for clients. Unfortunately these are currently full (June 2025).
How do I schedule?
Before scheduling an initial session, I offer a free 15 minute consultation which provides us the opportunity to discuss your goals for therapy as well as my approach and availability to be sure I can meet your needs. (I usually recommend this to prevent paying for appointments to then learn I may be unable to accommodate your needs!) However, I am also happy to schedule a full initial session, if you prefer!
